A Little Warning -lyric

[Verse 1]
A sudden knock against the wooden door
I never heard your footsteps on the floor
If I had known you were already near
I would have had everything ready here

[Chorus]
If you had given me a little time
I would have rolled the welcome mat out fine
Brewed up a kettle with some fresh hot tea
And told the other guests to let us be
Why didn’t you let me know before today?
I would have cleared the whole wide world away

[Verse 2]
I could have searched the tin to find a treat
A little biscuit for a cup so sweet
Peeled the potatoes for a proper plate
Instead of rushing now it’s getting late

[Chorus]
If you had given me a little time
I would have rolled the welcome mat out fine
Brewed up a kettle with some fresh hot tea
And told the other guests to let us be
Why didn’t you let me know before today?
I would have cleared the whole wide world away

[Bridge]
Now coats are hanging by the crowded hall
And I’m caught off balance by it all
I’m glad you’re standing in the open light
Just wish I knew that you were here tonight

[Chorus]
If you had given me a little time
I would have rolled the welcome mat out fine
Brewed up a kettle with some fresh hot tea
And told the other guests to let us be
Why didn’t you let me know before today?
I would have cleared the whole wide world away

[Outro]
Put out the mat
Turn on the flame
Just let me know
Next time you came
